Upgrade Your Kajabi Blog with the Glow-Up Lab

It started with someone about to move their whole blog into a Product

True story. 🫣

One of the Glow-Up Lab members writes a lot.  And every post is given a tag showing the suburb it's about, so a reader can click one topic and see everything for their patch. Clever. Useful. Exactly what a blog should do.

And then he told me he was about to move EVERY post into a Kajabi Product... just so it could look like Netflix.

I nearly fell off my chair. 😂

Because the Kajabi blog page already has everything he wanted. The posts are there. The topics are there. The search is there. Kajabi even filters by topic when you click one. It just... lays it all out like a spreadsheet had a baby with a noticeboard.

So instead of moving the posts, I changed the page. And low and behold... the Blog Page Enhancer was born.

Can we talk about Kajabi's blog page for a hot minute?

I love Kajabi. You know I love Kajabi. But the blog page is one long grid of identical cards, a little sidebar down the side with a list of topics in it, and a "next page" button at the bottom that most people never click.

Which is fine if you've got six posts.

It is NOT fine when you've got sixty, across ten topics, and a new reader lands on the page wanting to find "the thing about pricing" and just sees... a wall. That's the point where they leave, and you've done all that writing for nothing.

What the Blog Page Enhancer actually does

It lives under Finishing Touches in The Glow-Up Lab, next to the Library and Video enhancers, and it restyles the blog page Kajabi already gives you. Same posts, same topics, same search... just laid out like a page somebody designed on purpose:

• your topics as buttons across the top, so a reader can jump straight to what they came for
• a proper grid, or a slider (yes, the Netflix one) if you'd rather people scroll sideways
• everything in one big group, or a section per topic, each with its own heading
• cards that look like cards: image on top, title on a colour block below, or the title laid over the photo with a soft fade
• the sidebar where you want it: down the side, tucked underneath, or gone

And it all lives in ONE Custom Code section on your blog page. Nothing in your theme's code gets touched. 🙌

(That last line matters more than it sounds, and I'll come back to it, because it's the bit that stops this from ever breaking your site.)

Pick your look (this is the fun part)

Topics across the top.
The Lab reads the topic list Kajabi already has in your sidebar and turns it into a row of buttons above your posts. Click one and you get Kajabi's own topic page, exactly as it's always worked... it just doesn't look like a link in a sidebar anymore. The buttons even take their colour from your Categories link setting, so if you change it in Kajabi, they follow.

Grid or slider.
Grid lays every post down the page, three across (or two, or four, your call). Slider puts them in a row you scroll sideways, with arrows. Honestly, most blogs want the grid. People come to a blog to SEE everything. The slider is lovely for a "latest posts" feel, but if you've got a big back catalogue, go grid.

One group, or a section per topic.
One group is your blog as one big page. A section per topic gives you a heading for each topic with its posts underneath, so the page reads like a magazine: Pricing, then Mindset, then Behind the Scenes. Each heading is a link to that topic's own page, so nobody has to scroll back up to the buttons.

Card style.
My favourite is the panel: image on top, tag on the image, and the title on a colour block underneath so you see the WHOLE photo. Blog titles are long and they carry the meaning, so I didn't want them covering the artwork. If you'd rather the moody look, there's the overlay (title over the photo with a fade) and a blend that fades the photo softly into the card colour. Your card colour, your choice.

Image shape.
Wide, 4:3, square or tall poster. Plus a big "feature" card option that makes every fourth post span the full row, image beside the words, if you want a bit of rhythm on the page.

The little things.
Tags on the image or under the title. A "Featured" ribbon on the post you've pinned. Your search box lifted up into the topic row. The sidebar down the side, moved underneath, or hidden. Excerpt on or off. Arrows on or off.

Every choice comes with a tiny picture of what it does, so you're not guessing. Pick, pick, pick, install. Change your mind later? Come back, pick again, install again. It updates in place.

Before you install: the two-minute setup

There's one thing to do first, and the Lab walks you through it.

Add an empty Custom Code section to your Blog page.
Website → Design → open your theme → Blog page → add a section → Custom Code. Leave it empty. That's the spot the Lab writes into. Drag it to the very TOP of the page (above your posts) and you'll never see a flicker of the old grid while the new one loads. It costs no space up there, I promise.

A Penny Tip: try it on a copy of your theme first.
I do this with every site change. In Website → Design, export your theme, then upload it straight back as a new template. Now you've got a twin that isn't live. Point the Lab at the twin, install, have a look, play with the options. Happy? Install onto your live theme, or just make the twin your live one. Not happy? Delete the twin and nobody ever knew. 😉

After it's live (it's like a brand new site!!!)

It's still your normal Kajabi blog.

New post? It shows up, no extra steps.
New topic? A new button appears. Your readers click a topic and Kajabi does the filtering like it always has. The "next page" button is still there, so nobody's older posts go missing. Search still works. Your blog is still your blog... it just got a glow-up.

And because the whole look lives inside that one Custom Code section, it survives theme updates. When Kajabi pushes a new version of your theme, your blog page look comes along for the ride. That's the difference between "custom code" that lives in your theme files and gets wiped, and this.

The only rule is the same one as everything in the Lab: pick one home for your edits.
Want a different look? Come back to the Lab and change it there. Don't go editing the code inside that section by hand in Kajabi, because the next Lab update writes it again.

Three little things to know

Your thumbnails are all 16:9 (1280 x 720px), whether you like it or not.
Kajabi's blog image cropper saves every thumbnail as a wide image. So if you pick the square or poster shape, the sides of your pictures will get trimmed, and if your thumbnails have writing on them (hi, mine do) that writing can get cut off. Two ways out: pick "Fit" in the image options, which shows the whole picture on a soft blurred backdrop... or go make new thumbnails for the shape you chose. Or just stay wide. Wide is fine. Wide is what Kajabi wants you to be. 😂

Posts per page is YOUR setting.
Kajabi shows 24 posts per page out of the box, and the Lab never changes that for you, because if you ask Kajabi to draw too much on one page it throws a wobbly and the page disappears. If you want more on the page, raise it yourself in the Blog Listings section settings, gently. The section-per-topic layout quietly gathers posts from your other pages so a topic isn't split in half, and caps each topic row so the page stays quick.

Check it on the live page, not just in the editor.
Kajabi's editor preview doesn't always behave when you click a topic button (it's the preview, not the enhancer). Save, open your actual blog in a new tab, click around. That's the real thing.

What about the post itself?

This one does the blog PAGE, the one with all your posts on it, and every topic page that comes off it. The single post page (the one you're reading right now) is next on my list. It'll be its own thing with its own name, so you can do one without the other.
